COMPTEL on The Compton Gamma-Ray ObservatoryThe COMPTEL telescope was the middle instrument on the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory. COMPTEL has been a collaborative project by the four institutes:
The COMPTEL 9-year mission database continues to be a major resource of astronomy in the MeV energy range of gamma-rays, and will probably remain record holder for the achieved sensitivity (about 10^(-5) ph/(cm^2 s)) and for large-scale imaging for many years. Major results on MeV sources are collected in the 1st COMPTEL source catalogue (Schönfelder et al., Astron. Astrophys. Suppl. Ser., 143, 145-179 (2000)). Local project documentation and utilities and collaboration-wide information sources at MPE:
documents, scientific results and utilities used by the data analysts, the processing team and the scientists. technical and management documents, used and maintained by the MPE software team. COMPTEL is described in detail in a paper by Schönfelder et al., 1993, APJS 86, p 657-692
