COMPTEL

Routine Processing

To translate the raw telemetry information from the instrument into the desired scientific results a series of processing and anlysis steps are necessary.

Mission Data processing

In a series of preprocessing steps the telemetry row data are converted to physically meaningful units.

The flight data processing status is documented in the worklist, which is kept current by the MPE processing team. To access this file for update use the DRG option in the COMPASS menu (COMPASS/DRG/3/1).

The involved subsystems for this steps are:

ENG (Engeneering Processing): The imported row data (from external units) are decomposed per day, the instrument modes, the stability and transmission quality is checked.

IFC (Inflight Calibration Analysis): To normalize the event messages and burst system spectra the inflight calibration information combined with the preflight calibration result datafiles are converted into correction coefficient.

EVP (Event Processing): Using IFC results, baseline calibration files and maps the event message informations are converted in physically meaningful data.

BUP (Burst System Processing): Using IFC results and baseline calibration files to convert the burst row spectra.
