The Electron Drift Instrument (EDI) measures the drift of a weak beam of test electrons, from which the ambient electric fields and magnetic field gradients can be determined. As a by-product, the magnetic field strength is also measured. EDI is a collaborative effort between the Max-Planck-Institut für extraterrestrische Physik (MPE) the University of New Hampshire (UNH), and the University of California San Diego (UCSD). MPEs contribution was supported by Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) under grant 50 OC 9705.
