The Para-Magnet Lab of the MPE allows to investigate the
behaviour of para-magnetic particles inside the plasma. In the
setup a plasma chamber is mounted below a stack of water-cooled
magnet coils. At this location where the magnetic field is inhomogenious
an additional force is acting on the microparticles inside the plasma.
The images below show details of the setup (left image) and the
plasma chamber in operation (right image) where the particles are
illuminated by a green laser and observed by a camera. This high
speed camera is capable of recording up to 1000 frames per second.
This allows a better analysis of the dynamical processes inside
the complex plasma.

Within a cooperation with the university of Liverpool the Para-Magnetic
Lab moved from MPE the Liverpool in 2006.
